Paternity cases are necessary when the identity of the biological father of a child is in question. During the paternity case, conservatorship, possession and access (a/k/a visitation), and child support for the child will also be established. If you believe you may not be the biological father of a child and no court order has been established, it is imperative that you establish in Court, through DNA testing, that you are not the biological father, thereby, relieving you of the child support obligation. Conversely, if you know who the biological father is but that man is contesting that fact, you must resolve this dispute through the court system by filing a paternity case, thereby, imposing a legal duty on the biological father to pay child support.
